Leslie Paxton, B.S., CHN
Wellness Practitioner & Board Certified Nutritionist
Owner @ Working Well, LLC
For 20 years, I have enjoyed working with diverse populations in a variety of settings to achieve one common goal; improving health and wellbeing. As a college student I felt led to begin my work in pre-medical studies with the intention of becoming a doctor of infectious disease. After completing an HIV/AIDS study abroad program in South Africa, I found that my interest was more rooted in preventing disease and illness through outreach and education rather than treating it with medical intervention. Over the years, I have worked with diverse populations of individuals and in a variety of settings. From recovery centers to state health programs; jails to universities, private medical corporations to individual clients; I can honestly say that my path is guided by my passion which is why I am so excited to be working to help others achieve optimum health and wellness in their lives. I have recently returned to college to pursue my Masters of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition Therapy.

So, what does wellness have to do with the workplace? Introducing an Employee Wellness Program is two-fold. How? Increasing wellness with education, interaction and consistency improves the lives of your employees and the value that they feel from you, their employer. As the employer it works to reduce the high costs associated with employee benefits including insurance premiums, prescription drug plan premiums and employee call-in/sick days. Providing a wellness program in the workplace reinforces the importance of wellness and healthy living and its place in all aspects of daily living, including occupational health.
Whether you employ one individual or 1,000 individuals, the success of your organization is only as healthy as the people who are running it. To maximize overall productivity and enhance individual wellbeing, I invite you to consider taking a closer look at the wellness and health of your employees and explore the benefits of implementing a worksite wellness program if you do not already have one.
