Frequently Asked Questions
If Biometric Screenings are a requirement for participation in your company's Wellness Program, you may have a few questions. Here are some helpful tips to prepare you for your screening appointment:
"What is a biometric screening?"
A biometric screening is an evaluation of a person's overall health by testing the following physical factors:
- Blood Pressure
- Total Cholesterol
- HDL Cholesterol ("Good" Cholesterol)
- LDL Cholesterol ("Bad" Cholesterol)
- Triglycerides
- Blood Glucose
- Total Body Weight/Body Mass Index
"Where and when will I have my biometric screening?"
Your company's Wellness Coordinator will conduct individual biometric screenings at your company location between August 1 - May 1. Check with your company's Wellness Coordinator to inquire about sign-ups and scheduling for your specific location. Email my Wellness Coordinator
"Do I have to fast before my screening?"
Although it is best to fast before your biometric screening, it is not required. If you need to eat a light snack before your appointment in order to take medication or due to your work shift/schedule you can still complete your screening on the same day. If you do require a light snack is best to avoid high fat and high sugar content foods.
"Do you have to draw blood for the tests? Will it hurt?"
The cholesterol and glucose tests are measured with a whole blood sample that is taken with a single finger stick. Most people don't feel any discomfort during the finger stick and are often surprised at how easy the process is. The results are available within just a few minutes.
"How do I know if my results are within the recommended guidelines?"
Your Wellness Coordinator will go over the test results with you and can also provide you with suggestions and tools to help you improve your numbers if they fall out of the recommended range. Click here for current guidelines and recommendations for blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose.
